Jewelry Design work shop

I love it, I LOve It , I LoVE IT!!!! It's one of the best workshop at Cooper Hewitt. It's so cool! I learn soooo much.
It's 3 day workshop that teaches you how to make your own jewelery, In 2 days I made 2 necklace, 2 pairs of earring and a bracelet. She teach us so much in 2 days and she also gave use a handout that shows every process step by step and the places where we could get our materials and tool for cheap price.
I show my mom my pieces, and she Love it and she want to learn too. I think it's perfect for my mom too make jewelry, cuz she make wedding dresses and she got alot of free time at nail salon.. maybe in the we could form our own jewelry shop. I looking forward for my last jewelry workshop today.

New friend Yang Liang

I meet her last saturday, at Parsons The New School for Design, 4th floor, She's a new member of Jacab Lawrence Scholar, She's 11 grade... and most importantly she's a immigrant and she speak chinese 2. Ever since high school, I haven't meet anyone from school or programs that speak Chinese, so I was supper excited. I actually accidentally poke her eye cuz I was 2 highper. She was like me, very committed to programs, have a dream and love what she's doing (art). I felt connected, at least I feel there's someone like me, I wasn't a odd one. For the 1st day, we felt we know each other for a while, I guess it's a good sign.

Alien Cup

Product Design with Boym Partners taking place on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. It was a really fun workshop. We break into 3 different groups. I was working with 2 new kid in other school, they're cool but just talk way to much. anyway what we did was, first Boym show us a slide show about her work and gave us the basic instruction about how to create new useful item out of old item, and give them a new life. I like the idea alot and all of the material is from the fleas market and the price for each piece is less than a dollar. After the slide show comes the fun part. we get the chance make our own pieces by putting the old items together, such as cups and plates. In the end, we have a discussion about our work. I like other people but i like my work alot. it's made out of 2 white plate and 3 white mugs and It look like an alien. I love it, and happiest things is we could bring our pieces home.

visiting Google

On January 21, 2009 I went visit google studio with Design Direction program. It's so cool, when I first enter the building I saw hanging paper cut white snow flake, it's so pretty, I was think the same idea, to degrade my parent nail salon the same way for last Christmas, but my mom say it's white is not a good color, very religious, maybe I should try for next year. Any way we meet the art director their, and he told us the history of google, how it get started and how it get famous. He told us the Google mean 10 to the 100 power. and he also show us couple tricks for using google, like there's system under google chat, which allow you to tape English and the computer asthmatically translate into another language. it's just so cool. Google also have one of the best employment service in the world, the worker have free food, medicate, excises room and in California they even got a swing pool just for the worker. Every thing just so nice there, may be in the future I might want to work google.

High bridge project

This is my last class at Parson as a Van Lier Scholar. As a completion to three-year endeavor, the Portfolio Prep and Van
Lier Scholars will embark on their first professional class involving a graphic/architectural design team effort. With the guidance of faculty member Nick Brinen, Scholars will devote their regular Saturday class time to collaborate with Architecture for Humanity New York in developing a renovation of the High Bridge Gatehouses in Bronx, New York. This experience is part of Parsons broader effort to offer Scholars hands-on professional experience with real-time deadlines and city-wide
exposure of their realized design for the High Bridge Gatehouses renovation.

This will going to be very interesting, I took the first class last week it intensive and professional. I'm really looking forward to start the project and be able to leave a history behind.

experience with the train

“Rawrrr.” From far away I can hear the sounds of an angry animal followed by a loud “crash!” The sound of thunder built by the gods, fused with the sound of a clashing blade and “whoosh” suddenly a gust of wind, my body wobbled; “Bing Bong” the train doors close. I could have sworn a giant monster had just swallowed me whole. It was my first time ever riding a train. All of a sudden the floor starts to dance, shaking. I felt the vibrations from my toe send a signal of danger to my brain. I was terrified; I thought I was in the middle of an earthquake! It seemed like the ground was about to split open and an evil hand was going to reach out and pull me into the darkness. My body felt out of balance like a leaf being blown by the wind. I grasped onto the pole tightly as if it were my safety jacket. I was afraid, but somehow excited, maybe because I was curious about what would happen next. Like moving from China to the USA and beginning my new life, there was fear but there was always hope.

If you have ridden a NYC train, most likely you’ve experienced rush hour. This is when the train is extremely crowded. “Bing Bong” once the train doors open, people become like a flood rushing out. And you’re like the little fish being pushed by a giant wave, following the flow. Like my life in New York City, I was overwhelmed by the amount of information and opportunities. There’s always so much going on. I was like a sponge absorbing everything around me. One train can lead to many places; there are countless paths you can take. However the decision of which train and path I’m going to take is in my hands. I’m clear in my choice of direction and I’ll use the map and direction signs to guide me and make sure I am being on the right path. My next stop on the map is Parsons The New School for Design.

I’m not afraid of trains anymore. Like brushing my teeth, riding trains has become a part of my daily life. I read, draw, work and even sleep standing up on the train. What was once frightening sounds; are now an invigorating symphony. What was once a fearful monster; now feels like a comfortable home. No more earthquakes, just vibrations that feel surprisingly calm like ocean waves. I imagine myself surfing at the beach, with the bright sunshine and gentle wind. “Look at me, I can surf with my arms open without holding onto a security jacket.” I give myself a big bright smile. Sometimes the waves become mischievous. I end up swinging, hitting the wall, bumping into the pole or knocking into other people. Still it’s all right because I’ll get my balance back. I deal with the motion of the waves on the train the same as I deal with anything else. You can’t learn how to walk well unless you’ve tripped up a few times. Like the trains one day I’ll get used to my college life.

Magic Pencil

Magic Pencil

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I would want to have a magic pencil; it would make everything I draw come to life. In reality, the magic pencil does exist inside me; and for this project magic pencil represents my talent, creativity, diligence and skills. Like the rocket, the burning fuel of this project is my passion. I use the magic pencil to send message, bring up social awareness, and contribute to the world. The magic of this pencil is the changes that can be created through art

As you can see in this project, I have very experimented with materials and listed below are reasons why I used the following materials.

• Autumn leaves: Like the leaves give nutrition to tree, I give my passion to art. The colors of the autumn leaf look like flame and passion is hot like flames.
• Colorful Rice: Beside the fact that I eat rice every day, the colorful rice in this project represents different race and diversity. Ever since I came to the USA, the diversity and different races I encounter change the way I think and my perception of the world. This influences me and my artwork.
• Map: Besides the fact that I take the train every day. Maps in this project represent my desire of spreading positive ideas, bring awareness and make social changes in the world I live in.
• Penny Shoes: A thousand mile journey is made out of single steps. One penny might not be worth anything but a lot of them could be a great deal. The message behind it is every one has the power to make change, don’t neglect your power remember every penny counts.
• Loose Leaf: Everyone has the experience to record thing, such as notes, feeling, experience, thought, memories, it’s part of the learning, growing process. Change could be the result of this process.
